Los Angeles : Round 2

We just went down to San Diego for 2 weeks, then it was back to LA. Laurel had a conference for her work and we bounced around the area for a while. By this point we were really getting comfortable in LA. It’s a pretty nice town if you don’t have to fight the traffic.

San Diego, California

San Diego is awesome. We were there for two weeks so we got a good feeling for the city. The weather is amazing, the traffic is light, the craft beer scene is world class, there are beaches, and close access to Mexico. It wasn’t a city that was high on my radar when we started the trip. But it surprised us and surpassed our expectations on every level. If only it wasn’t so far away from all of our families!

Los Angeles, California

I’m breaking up the format of these posts a little, when we were staying in one place for a couple weeks at a time it kind of made sense to have them all in one post. But since we stayed in the LA area for a while and every city is a little bit different I’m going to split them into different sections. Obviously I’m not going to give every area a total review, but we tried to hit some major areas around town. Los Angeles is a huge area, it’s really hard to imagine how spead out but still interconnected it is without spending some time here. Like DC, you don’t drive at certain times of day. Since my commute was only from the bed to the front seat, I really didn’t get a view of the famous LA traffic. But that did allow us to explore at different times. Even with all we did, there is still more to see, we will be back.

Anaheim, California

Anaheim is a city in Orange County California, It’s mostly known for being the home of Disneyland also known by me for being the home of 90’s rock princess Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. Like all suburbs of LA it has a chip on it’s shoulder in relation to all the other suburbs and a slight lack of distinct identity (besides Disney). The RV was in the repair shop so we decided if we were going to have to stay in a hotel, it might as well be close to Disneyland. We really enjoyed all that Disney has to offer and found some other local attractions also.

WiFi : Golden Shores RV Resort

I don’t know if I buy it… It’s still Tengo… but they don’t mention any  bandwidth caps. So this may be great.  Only time will tell

Lake Tahoe, California

We decided that we needed some time away from the RV for Christmas. Since we weren’t going to be near any family for the holidays we thought a little ski trip would be nice. So we put some food and water out for the cat, packed the dog and our snowboard stuff into the Scion and hit the road to Lake Tahoe.

Motel 6

I live at the Motel 6 Carson California.

It’s not a bad place, there are good people here. There’s a guy next door that seems to be breeding pit bulls. There’s a family living across the hall with 4 kids. On Saturday night it sounded like everybody her was having weird sex. but i was just holed us with my dog and my cat because I have no where else to go. This is probably cheaper that living in Northern Virginia?

I can’t let them come in the room because they might notice all the times that the dog peed on teh floro.

San Francisco California

Looking back at all these pictures and places I realize that there really is a lot to do in the San Francisco area. We stayed here for almost 2 months, I had a two week trip back to Virginia and we spent Christmas in Tahoe. But this was home for most of that time. The cost of living is very high here, but it may be worth it with all the activities and events to go to. We have been doing a post for every city we stayed in, but this is really stretching that concept to the max. I’ll try to remember all the places that we visited, it was a blast!

WiFi : Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

Not bad, you can’t really use Youtube but I think they are limiting that artificially. The connection is strong all the time and never drops, the only downside is that you have to pay $2.99 per day per device.

WiFi : Huntington by the Sea RV Park

Some days this signal was great and others it was almost unusable. If we went over to the clubhouse it would get much stronger, I think it was a different repeater over there. It didn’t like me using the long range bridge and router, they worked sometimes, but dropped connection a lot. FTP traffic was limited to 30Kbps but HTML traffic was speedy (when it worked). I did download a bunch of big files overnight without an problems, overall it wasn’t a bad WiFi experience. At least it wasn’t Tengo Internet
